Increase Positive Emotions

There is no longer any doubt that what happens in the brain influences what happens in the body.

Studies have shown an indisputable link between having a positive outlook and health benefits in people suffering from a range of illnesses including cancer. Positive emotions include joy, interest, contentment, and love.

Enhancement of the immune system may be one link between anecdotal claims of relationships between an individual’s being in a positive emotional state and healing, according to this study.

Impact of Positive Emotion on Survival

“Laughter in and of itself cannot cure cancer nor prevent cancer, but laughter as part of the full range of positive emotions including hope, love, faith, strong will to live, determination and purpose, can be a significant and indispensable aspect of the total fight for recovery.” (Harold H. Benjamin, PhD)

Several studies have shown that a positive attitude or emotional state can boost your chances of surviving cancer. In one study, among patients with metastatic (spreading)cancers, those who expressed greater hope at the time of their diagnosis survived longer. In another study, over 400 reports of spontaneous remission of cancer were reviewed and analyzed. The patients themselves attributed their cure to a broad range of causes, but only one factor was common to all the cases—a shift toward greater hope and a positive attitude.

This study concluded that positive emotions can be an important factor that buffers individuals against maladaptive health outcomes. Emerging research indicates that finding ways to cultivate meaningful positive emotions is a critical necessity for optimal physical and psychological functioning. Indeed, positive emotions are good for your health. With increasing research, we continue to substantiate empirically age-old folk theories about positive emotions and health that have persisted through time.

Study Suicide and Cardiovascular Death after a Cancer Diagnosis published in New England Journal of Medicine says:

Our findings suggest that a cancer diagnosis constitutes a major stressor, one that immediately affects the risk of critical, fatal outcomes. We speculate that our findings show only a portion of the range of effects induced by the emotional distress associated with a cancer diagnosis.

10 emotional “seeds” to plant in your garden now
Think of your mind, your emotions and your spirit as the ultimate garden. The way to ensure a bountiful, nourishing harvest is to plant seeds like love, warmth and appreciation — instead of seeds of disappointment, anger and fear.
Here are 10 emotional seeds to plant in your garden now. Use them to bring fulfillment and abundance to your life, and as an antidote to negative emotions.

Gratitude
Deepak Chopra describes gratitude as an “immensely powerful force that we can use to expand our happiness, create loving relationships, and even improve our health.”

Hunger
If you are going to create lasting value in the world, you must have the determination to make change happen.

Passion
Passion is what gives you a sense of purpose. Excitement and passion can add “juice” to just about anything. To paraphrase Benjamin Disraeli, “man is only truly great when he acts from passion.”

Love and warmth
The consistent expression of love can melt almost any negative emotion it comes in contact with. Recognize that whether you are met with an expression of love or a cry for help, the intent is positive. Recognizing the positive intent within yourself and others allows you to be gracious rather than offended.

Curiosity
If you really want to grow in life, learn to be as curious as a child. Children know how to wonder – to marvel at things most obvious or routine to the average adult. That’s why they’re rarely bored! When you’re curious, nothing is a chore.

Flexibility
The ability to change what’s going on – to adapt rapidly and without getting upset – is the guarantee of success. Your level of happiness is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you are willing to live with. As Amazon founder Jeff Bezos once said, “We are stubborn on vision. We are flexible on details.”

Confidence
When you’re confident, you are willing to experience the power of faith – the trust that things will work out. Unshakable confidence provides the sense of certainty we all want.

Cheerfulness
Being cheerful means you live life in a state of pleasure – one that’s so intense that you transmit a sense of joy to those around you.

Vitality
Vitality – or energy – is our life force. Your mental or emotional state starts with your energy level. Remember when you were a kid and you would run into a room or splash through a puddle, and you felt full of life? Well, the ultimate source of energy is our psychology. You can choose to be in an “energy rich” state of mind.

Sense of contribution
Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life’s deepest joy: true fulfilment. If every day you can feel that what you do adds something not only to your own life, but to others as well, then life takes on a new, deeper sense of meaning. There’s no richer emotion than the sense that who you are as a person, something you’ve said or done, has added to the life of someone you care about or perhaps someone you don’t even know.

Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds

Kelly Turner, PhD, a researcher who specializes in integrative oncology, studied one hundred cancer survivors and analysed over one thousand cases of people who experienced a “radical remission” from “incurable” cancer. She found that these people did not sit around waiting for a miracle, but made significant changes in their lives. Dr Kelley found ten healing factors common among all of the cases she studied. These ten key factors are:

 1. Radically changing your diet
 2. Taking control of your health
 3. Following your intuition
 4. Using herbs and supplements
 5. Releasing suppressed emotions
 6. Increasing positive emotions
 7. Embracing social support
 8. Deepening your spiritual connection
 9. Having strong reasons for living
 10. Daily Physical Exercise

A positive thought can heal you from cancer, you can have remission with a positive thought. A negative thought can cause the cancer so negative thoughts are equally powerful and we don’t recognise that the vast majority of our thoughts are negative and as a result, we don’t realise that our own thinking is manifesting a reality that the brain will manifest chemistry to complement that reality.Dr Bruce Lipton
