Laetrile (amygdalin) to treat cancer
What is Laetrile?
Laetrile is the patented drug made from the natural compound amygdalin, found in the seeds of many fruits, such as apricot, plum and peach pits, apple seeds, and quince, as well as in almonds. Laetrile is also known as Amigdalin B-17 or vitamin B17, although there is very little evidence it warrants classification as a vitamin.
According to G. Edward Griffin ( World without Cancer: The Story of Vitamin B17):
Amygdalin contains both Cyanide and Benzaldimide – both are released by Beta-Glucosidase which is found only in cancer cells. Plus, Rhodanese (an enzyme found in healthy cells) has the ability to neutralise the poisons that kills cancer cells.

Scientific evidence for Laetrile
Study: A pharmacologic and toxicological study of amygdalin.
… It is appropriate that patients taking laetrile be warned of the possible hazard of cyanide toxic reaction. They should be urged to use only one-tablet doses, to take the tablet well before meals to avoid mixing with food, and to refrain from concomitantly eating raw nuts, particularly almonds, or fruit pits.
They should be urged to seek medical assistance promptly if they experience any symptoms suggestive of cyanide toxic reaction, ie, giddiness, nausea and vomiting, hyperpnea, headache, palpitation, cyanosis, an obtundation.

Side effects
According to the National Cancer Institute the side effects of laetrile treatment include the following:
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Headache.
- Dizziness.
- Blue color of the skin caused by a lack of oxygen in the blood.
- Liver damage.
- Very low blood pressure.
- Droopy upper eyelid.
- Trouble walking caused by damaged nerves.
- Fever.
- Confusion.
- Coma.
- Death.
The side effects of laetrile depend on the way it is given. Side effects are worse when laetrile is given by mouth. While taking laetrile, side effects get worse when:
- Eating raw almonds or crushed fruit pits.
- Eating certain types of fruits and vegetables, such as celery, peaches, bean sprouts, and carrots.
- Taking high doses of vitamin C.
